Ladakh is the crown jewel of Himalayan motorcycle touring — a high-altitude desert of monasteries, glacial rivers, and roads that climb past 5,000 metres.

The riding season runs from June to September, once the high passes have cleared of snow. Most expeditions begin in Leh, allowing two full days for acclimatisation before setting out — altitude sickness is the single biggest risk to a good trip, and rushing it is never worth it.
